Hylton Turner

I started training in the 1990’s purely to get in better shape and get fitter. In 2004 in started playing rugby for Wits university and after developing a passion for the sport, represented them at first team level for over 6 years. In 2008 and 2009 I was elected to represent the Gauteng Lions amateur side, and this is where I got introduced to functional strength and conditioning through Scottie Mac who assisted with the conditioning.

In 2010 I moved to Pirates Rugby Club where I represented their 1st Team for 3 years, during this time, Scott had opened the Yard Athletic and it was an easy decision to move from a commercial gym to the Yard. It was soon after joining the Yard that I could see the value of proper strength and conditioning.

After hanging up the rugby I was introduced to boxing at the yard. I realised I needed to learn this amazing sport and after 18 months I had my first white collar fight. Within the the next 6 months I competed in 5 more. Following this at the age of 39 I got my amateur boxing license to test myself. Having worked with Hedda on my boxing journey, I then started helping her coach, which has quickly become my passion. Watching people work hard and achieve goals along the way has really inspired me to learn more about coaching and get more people to experience the value that boxing has added to my life.
