Scott has worked with a variety of clients from housewives to high school and elite level athletes, helping them reach their fitness, health and performance goals. Scott’s emphasis on continuing to improve through education and ‘in the trenches’ work with clients was acknowledged when he was named Virgin Active Personal trainer of the year in 2010. A former athlete himself, Scott’s passion is to seek out the best methods to improve his client’s strength, athletic abilities and nutrition in order to move, feel, perform & look better. Currently Scott runs the Yard Athletic continuing to work with a variety of clients including professional athletes. Scott also provides trainer education and is a StrongFirst Team Leader, teaching internationally.
Our head trainer Maureen has a level of experience and knowledge that is rare to find in the South African fitness industry. Her love for training and movement started at a young age as a Springbok Judoka and more recently as a Springbok Powerlifter competing at World champs. In 2012 before joining our team she was awarded Virgin Active trainer of the year out of 900+ trainers country wide. Constantly seeking to up skill her coaching abilities Maureen has acquired a long list of international qualifications. Pair this with over a decade of in the trenches coaching and you'll struggle to find someone with her abilities. Today Maureen's skillset and focus on movement improvement allows her to help clients achieve pain free functional movement. Maureen will get you strong, fit and lean in the safest way possible.
Dean is a qualified Sport Scientist, having completed an honours degree at the university of Pretoria. He has spent time working with high level athletes with extensive experience in youth athlete development. Dean develops young Athletes through his philosophy of building strong foundation of 'basics', first coaching the fundamental movement patterns and skills, giving students the building blocks to reach new heights with their strength, power, speed and fitness levels. Dean's eye for detail and scientific based programme design is helping individuals reach new heights in their training and performance.
Hedda has been involved in sports her whole life, she was a successful tennis player in her youth and is now a professional boxer. Hedda is touted as SA's number one female boxer is currently the IBF Africa champion. Hedda is in charge of The Yard Athletic Boxing Academy where she focuses on teaching the science and technique of boxing in a fun and encouraging environment. With an honors degree in Sports Science and international certifications such as the StrongFirst SFG I, SFB, and SFL, Hedda is a pedigree coach who takes her career seriously.
Hekkie “The Hexecutioner” Budler is a 7 time World Boxing Champion and is one of, if not thee, most pedigree boxers in South African history. On the 20th May 2019 in Ota-City Japan, Hekkie won the World Boxing Association Super World Light Fly Title, International Boxing Federation World Light Fly as well as the Ring Magazine Belt making him one of South Africa’s most successful boxers all time. He also became the first African to win three titles simultaneously in one fight. Hekkie started boxing at the super young age of 8 and later went to fulfil a massive amateur career, with a record of 150 wins and 10 losses. This set him up for his pro career which has too many accomplishments to list here. Hekkie eats, sleep and breaths boxing. It is a privilege to have him as part of our coaching staff, with his wealth of knowledge and what seems to be never ending energy supply.
As qualified trainer since 2000, Sean is a wealth of experience and knowledge. Sean has competed in both Bodybuilding and Powerlifting, becoming a world champion in the latter in 2016. He continues competing as an elite masters Powerlifter today. In 2015, after 14 years of personal training Sean transitioned to life coaching and now focuses on mental performance coaching out of The Yard Athletic. Currently Sean runs a 9-week Mental Performance coaching programme that helps you develop the mindset, mental fortitude and psychology reach your goals, handle today's stress and manage your personal relationships. The programme is open to members and non-members.
